Party of Regions leader Victor Yanukovych
believes that the regular presidential election must take place in the
year 2010, after New Year and Chirstmas holidays.
According to an UNIAN correspondent, Victor Yanukovych claimed this to a press conference in Donetsk on Thursday.
He
noted that after the Constitutional Court announced its ruling, the
Party of Regions has not decided as yet what date of the presidential
election it will support.
Victor Yanukovych pointed out that he
had discussed the issue with lawyers, who believe that the presidential
election must take place either on December 27, 2009, or on January 17,
2010.
As UNIAN reported earlier, the Constitutional Court of
Ukraine on Wednesday ruled as unconstitutional the October 25 date set
by parliament for the next presidential election in Ukraine. According
to an UNIAN correspondent, the Constitutional Court publicized its
ruling on Wednesday. The ruling was made on the case, opened on the
constitutional submission of the Ukrainian President, who had
challenged the October date in the Constitutional Court, saying the
election should not take place until early next year.
